Digital Middle Passage

- For Cello & Electronics -

- Choreography by André M. Zachery -

A solo about recoding identity during a time of literal and speculative transition. Time and space in regards to Black existence is suspended between two realms: one familiar and the other foreign. The solo remixes the horror of the Middle Passage into a new journey of "self-recoding" through struggle and capture yet ultimately embodying power and agency.

Performed by Ansel Cohen (cello), Matthew Gantt (sound design), and André M. Zachery (choreography/multimedia design).

Performance on November 4, 2015 at Irondale Center in Brooklyn, New York.
